Employment Opportunities at the NIST CCC

Thank you for your interest in employment opportunities at the NIST CCC.  As of December 9, 2015 we have two openings available:

1. NIST Child Care Center is accepting resumes for full time qualified Lead Teachers for our preschool programs and substitutes. NIST CCC operates from 6:45am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday, year round, for children six weeks through fifth grade. Lead teachers must possess the ability to develop age appropriate daily lesson plans, plan activities based on the assessed skills, interests and needs of all the children in the class, complete formal and informal assessments on each child, provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment as well as adequate supervision for all the children in the group at all times, and communicate regularly with parent(s) about the development of their children in order to build strong positive relationships.

All candidates must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Meet MSDE OCC education and training specifications for the specific age group
  • Have education to be credentialed at a Level 4, or higher, on the MSDE Credentialing Levels
  • Attend in-service training programs and complete continuing education requirements, as required yearly
  • Perform other appropriate duties as requested by the Center Administration.
  • Possess a positive attitude and the ability to be a good team player
  • Be available to work as early as 6:45 am or until 6:00pm if necessary
  • Submit to federal and state criminal background checks
  • Be physically able to lift 40 pounds.


2. NIST Child Care Center is seeking a lead teacher for our before and after school program and summer school age program who is responsible, energetic and has previous experience with elementary age children between 5 and 12 years of age. The position will require someone with the ability to oversee and manage the summer program as well as providing a stimulating before and after school experience during the school year.  Attention to detail and safety is a must. NIST Child Care Center operates on the grounds of National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in Gaithersburg, MD from 6:45am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday, year round, for children six weeks through fifth grade.

Lead teachers must possess the ability to develop age appropriate daily lesson plans around a theme centered curriculum, plan activities based on the assessed skills, interests and needs of all the children in the class, complete formal and informal assessments on each child, provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment as well as adequate supervision for all the children in the group at all times, and communicate regularly with parent(s) about the development of their children in order to build strong positive relationships. 

All candidates must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Meet MSDE OCC education and training specifications for the school age leader.
  • Have education to be credentialed at a Level 4, or higher, on the MSDE Credentialing Levels.
  • Trained in Medication Administration, CPR and First Aid Certified preferred.
  • At least one year of experience teaching children in a licensed child care center or elementary school with ages 5-12 preferred.
  • Attend in-service training programs and complete continuing education requirements, as required yearly.
  • Possess excellent judgment and decision making skills.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as requested by the Center Administration.
  • Possess a positive attitude and the ability to be a good team player.
  • Submit to federal and state criminal background checks.
  • Be physically able to lift 40 pounds.
  • Hours:

    M -F: 7-9:30am SPLIT 1:00-6:00pm for school year but alternate schedule on "no school days and early release days".This is a full time position over the summer when elementary schools are closed.There is potential to add to the split shift for a full eight hours per day.
