NIST Extends Proposal Deadline for Construction Grant Program

GAITHERSBURG, MD -- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) announced today that it is extending the deadline of a solicitation for grant proposals for the construction of science research buildings until 3 p.m. EDT, Friday, August 1, 2008. The original deadline was 3 p.m. EDT, on Monday, July 21, 2008, but technical difficulties that day at the Web site that accepted electronic submissions prevented some applications from being received.

The competition, announced by NIST on May 20, is a solicitation for proposals for the construction of new buildings or the expansion of existing buildings at institutions of higher education and nonprofit organizations. The buildings will be used for scientific research related to the missions of three Department of Commerce agencies, NIST, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. See "Grant Proposals Sought for Construction of Science Research Buildings."

NIST will deem all electronic proposals received on July 21, 2008, between the announced deadline of 3 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. EDT to have been submitted on time. Paper proposals submitted between the July 21, 3 p.m, deadline and the date of publication of the notice announcing the extended deadline will also be deemed to have been submitted on time. NIST also will accept proposals submitted on paper until the new deadline of 3 p.m. EDT, Friday, August 1, 2008.

Details of the NIST Construction Grant Program solicitation can be reviewed at Grants.gov (www.grants.gov) by searching for CFDA number 11.615; however, only paper submissions will be accepted from now until the extended deadline. Paper submissions must be received no later than 3 p.m. EDT, Friday, August 1, 2008, at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, 100 Bureau Drive, Stop 4701, Gaithersburg, MD 20899-4701, and must include one original and two copies.
