In May 2011, George E. Jenkins was appointed Chief Financial Officer at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). In this role, Mr. Jenkins is responsible for budget formulation and execution, financial management, acquisition and grants management, business systems and internal control and risk management activities.
Mr. Jenkins began his federal career in 1996 with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), where he served in several financial management related positions including Deputy Director of the Financial Management Systems Group, where he provided strategic vision and direction for financial and non-financial data processing systems with annual budgets in excess of $210 million. He also served as a Senior Technical Advisor to the CMS Office of Financial Management providing technical advice to the Chief Financial Officer for the implementation of the Medicare Modernization Act.
In 2008, Mr. Jenkins was accepted into the Senior Executive Service and joined the Department of Health and Human Services, where he served as the Director of the Office of Program Management and Systems Policy. In this capacity he was responsible for the strategic vision, design, oversight and implementation of all Department-wide enterprise financial management systems.
Prior to joining the Federal Government, Mr. Jenkins was Partner and Vice President of Jenkins and Jenkins, CPAs where he was responsible for audit and management consulting services.
Mr. Jenkins holds a Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania – Wharton School of Business and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Bridgeport. He is a Certified Public Accountant.
