Susannah Schiller has served as the Deputy Chief Information Officer (CIO) for NIST since 2003. As Deputy CIO, Ms. Schiller works closely with the NIST CIO to advise the NIST Director on the planning, execution, evaluation, and delivery of information technology services and support. With the CIO, she is responsible for planning and managing NIST’s core information technology resources effectively, efficiently, and securely so that NIST can achieve its mission.
Ms. Schiller has spent over 25 years at NIST. She began her career as a statistician, focusing on design and analysis of experiments for Standard Reference Material certification. She also spent several years in the Advanced Technology Program (ATP), first as Special Assistant to ATP's Director, developing, executing, and coordinating policy and communications for the ATP, and then managing ATP’s IT resources and developing specialized database applications. Recently, she spent six months detailed to the Office of Management and Budget in to the Office of E-Government and Information Technology where she worked with the enterprise architecture and shared services communities across the federal government.
Ms. Schiller holds a Master's Degree in Statistics from the University of Illinois and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Computer Science from the College of Wooster. She was the recipient of a Department of Commerce Bronze Medal and the George Uriano Award.
