Dr. Glenn P. Forney

Dr. Glenn P. Forney is a computer scientist in the Wildland - Urban Interface Fire Group of the Fire Research Division (FRD) of the Engineering Laboratory (EL) at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). Dr. Forney is interested in developing tools such as Smokeview that provide a better understanding through visualization of fire phenomena. His background in numerical analysis and scientific program development helps him to interact with other scientists so that theories for physical processes can be translated into workable computer algorithms. Dr. Forney is interested in the numerical and physical behavior of these algorithms so that better computer simulations can be constructed. He uses Fire on the Web as a means for communicating our research to those that need it.

Before joining NIST, Dr. Forney worked at Mobil Research and Development Corporation providing numerical analysis support for a large (200,000 lines) black-oil simulator. This simulator was used to decide how best to recover oil from an oil reservoir.
