Performance Evaluation and Benchmarking of Mobile Robot Navigation in Complex Environments

The primary focus of this initiative is to bring together what is so far an amorphous research community to define standardized test methods that will enable researchers, vendors, and end-users to quantify the performance characteristics of mobile robot localization and mapping in complex environments; expedite technology transfer and foster research and development of mobile robots that can operate safely in dynamic unstructured environments by:

  • Compiling open-source library of algorithms
  • Defining standardized evaluation procedures
  • Developing reproducible and repeatable test methods
  • Disseminating reference data sets
  • Organizing workshops and competitions
