PFTII Frequently Asked Questions - FAQ

  1. What's new in PFT II?
    1. PFT II will evaluate fingerprints matching from the different impression types: plain vs. plain, plain vs. rolled, rolled vs. rolled.
    2. New validation dataset includes plain and rolled images.
    3. Thumb, index and middle fingers will be included in the evaluation.
    4. Sample size has been increased to 120,000 subjects.
    5. Three 1K samples of different image sizes will be evaluated to report the extraction time and matching time.
    6. Average template size will be reported.
    7. New procedures have been implemented for application, encryption and validation.
    8. API specification has been changed to accommodate reporting template size.
    9. The order of image "width and height" in the API function has been changed from the previous order of "height and width".

 

  1. Can a vendor have multiple submissions? Yes, a vendor can have a new submission 90 days after the "completion date" of their last submission.

  3. Can vendors see the image data to do miss analysis? Sorry, the data is Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and for government use only.

  5. Can you give any information about the DHS2 dataset to help in tuning the matcher? Many of the low quality images in the DHS2 dataset are low contrast images.

  7. Does this PFT testing predict the performance of one-to-many systems? NO, the SDK evaluation is testing verification, which is one-to-one. PFTII does not predict the performance of one-to-many systems from one-to-one performance.

  9. Why the name change from Fingerprint SDK Testing to Proprietary Fingerprint Testing? We are trying to distinguish between the various SDK testing now being done at NIST like MINEX, MINEXII and ELFT07. It was not always clear that the original "SDK Testing" was really dealing with proprietary fingerprint templates and not interoperable templates as MINEX does.

  11. What hardware and OS is being used for the test?

    Hardware:

    • Dell 1855 Blades with Dual 2.8GHz Xeon Processors and 4GB of Memory.
    • AMD Quad 2.3 GHz/8GM Cache, AMD (4 core) with 192 MB of Memory and running RedHat Enterprise Linux 5OS.

    OS:

    • Windows 2003 server (32bit/64bit) with service pack SR2,
    • Redhat Linux 5.0 (64bit).
