Top Hat Filter
The top hat filter for removing the background from x-ray spectra
is described in Goldstein '92, p. 374, which refers to Schamber'77 (in the
text , Schamber '78 is incorrect - it should be Schamber '77) and Statham
'77, for more detailed treatment, in particular on how to adjust the widths
of the filter for best performance.
