Isolating Highly-Charged Ions in Compact Penning Traps

Highly charged ions are captured in compact Penning traps designed to facilitate experiments with the isolated ions. A variety of ions can be produced in the NIST EBIT, and transported to the experimental apparatus, which houses a unitary Penning trap with access for laser and atomic beams to interact with the stored ions. http://stacks.iop.org/PhysScr/T144/014009
