Nanotube Bolometer Workshop

The carbon-nanotube based bolometer presents our community with new opportunities in detecting photons – from UV to the far infrared. Please join us for a two-day workshop on July 22-23, 2015 that seeks to encourage, inspire and understand carbon nanotube-based bolometers. That is, benefit for or benefit from the nanotube bolometer. Optional local tours scheduled for July 24, 2015.

Format:

The workshop's format will be comprised of oral presentations and discussions. Presentations may be technical and/or programmatic (e.g. EMPIR).  If you are interested in giving a 20-minute presentation, or demonstrating some instrumentation, please e-mail abstract to: lehman [at] boulder.nist.gov (lehman[at]boulder[dot]nist[dot]gov) by April 7, 2015.

Important Dates:

April 7: Abstracts Due
May 4: Notification for Speakers (abstract acceptance)
June 8: Program available
July 22: Workshop begins

Sponsors

There are several entities working on, or interested in, the nanotube-based bolometer. With a more organized effort and the recognition of mutual benefit we can solve problems sooner and increase visibility that may lead to future funding and development.

Areas of interest:

  • Low-temperature free-space (vis – FIR)
  • Low-temperature fiber-coupled
  • Room-temperature free-space (for space e.g.)
  • Thermistors: CNT, superconducting transition-edge, doped Si
  • FTIR applications
  • Low temperature optical properties of CNTs
  • Electronics and control systems
  • Refrigeration and packaging
  • Temperature control
  • Nanotube growth device fab and micromachining and metallization
  • "NIST on a Chip" (or NMI on a chip)
  • Measurements, accuracy and uncertainty
  • Missions (e.g., climate, legal metrology, remote sensing)

If you are not registered, you will not be allowed on site. Registered attendees will receive security and campus instructions prior to the workshop.

NON U.S. CITIZENS PLEASE NOTE: All foreign national visitors who do not have permanent resident status and who wish to register for the above meeting must supply additional information. Failure to provide this information prior to arrival will result, at a minimum, in significant delays (up to 24 hours) in entering the facility. Authority to gather this information is derived from United States Department of Commerce Department Administrative Order (DAO) number 207-12. When registration is open, the required NIST-1260 form will be available as well.

*New Visitor Access Requirement: Effective July 21, 2014, Under the REAL ID Act of 2005, agencies, including NIST, can only accept a state-issued driver's license or identification card for access to federal facilities if issued by states that are REAL ID compliant or have an extension. Driver's licenses from nine states and territories are not compliant and will not be accepted as identification: Alaska, Arizona, Montana, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maine, and American Samoa. In addition, NIST will accept only enhanced driver's licenses (identified by the American Flag on the face of the card) from three states: Minnesota, New York, and Washington State.
