Abstract

The Optical Technology Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed a new instrument designed to measure the surface color of reflective, non-fluorescent samples at a geometry of 0 illumination angle and 45 viewing angle (0 /45 ). The instrument provides customers with means to incorporate calibrated transfer standards into their measurement systems and when required, a calibration service that can be used for measurements of customer supplied samples that meet the measurement criteria of the instrument. This document provides a detailed overview of the measurement methods, the uncertainty, and the characterization of the NIST Standard Reference 0/45 Colorimeter.
