Standards.Gov offers background materials and useful links for locating information about the use of standards in government. Our primary focus is on federal agency use of standards for regulatory purposes. This website is maintained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
The NTTAA states that NIST shall "coordinate Federal, State, and local technical standards activities and conformity assessment activities, with private sector technical standards activities and conformity assessment activities with the goal of eliminating unnecessary duplication and complexity in the development and promulgation of conformity assessment requirements and measures." NIST is also responsible under OMB Circular A-119 for compiling inputs from all Federal agencies and submitting an annual report to OMB and Congress.
If you are a federal agency, or have questions about the National Technology Transfer and Advancement Act, OMB Circular - A119, the National Science and Technology Council's Subcommittee on Standards (SOS), Standards Incorporated by Reference (SIBR), or this website, please contact Standards.gov:
