Dr. Ronald Tosh, Physicist in the Dosimetry Group of the Radiation Physics Division, PML, has been elected Fellow of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). Ron is an expert in absorbed dose metrology based on water calorimetry, critical for the direct realization of the SI unit of dose, the gray (Gy), to which all clinical absorbed dose measurements for radiation beam therapy are traceable. He has been a member of the AAPM since 2007, and is currently Chair of the AAPM Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Executive Committee (CLAX) and Vice Chair of the Working Group on International Dosimetry Integration. During his six-year tenure as Chair of the Calibration Laboratory Accreditation (CLA) Subcommittee, Ron co-led a rewrite of the Quality Manual and Accreditation Criteria documents used by the CLA Subcommittee and CLA Executive Committee to manage the AAPM Calibration Laboratory Accreditation Program. This project is of critical importance to both the AAPM and NIST, since the Accredited Dosimetry Calibration Laboratories (ADCLs) are accredited by the AAPM to disseminate NIST-traceable measurement standards for medical physics applications.
