Project Leader Enrico Lucon, from the MML Applied Chemicals and Materials Division, received the 2018 ASTM International Award of Merit for exceptional and sustained technical and leadership contributions to ASTM International; task group leadership; and symposia, workshop, and publication activities. In particular, the award recognizes multiple, notable, sustained, and significant contributions to ASTM though: (a) his leadership of, and personal technical contributions to, working groups, task groups, and subcommittees on fracture mechanics; (b) his contributions to advancing the technical understanding critical to ensuring the highest-quality technical content of fracture mechanics test methods, as evidenced by his technical presentations and publications; (c) his role in technically leading, and supporting, the updates and revisions of standardized approaches for characterizing fracture mechanics behavior in materials and structures, as evidenced by the regular contributions he has made at task/working group meetings over two decades of active membership in Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture; and (d) his contributions, first as a presenter/author, and more recently as a co-organizer/co-chair, to ASTM-sponsored symposia and workshops. He is also recognized for being a consistent and valued contributor to the technical activities of Committee E28 on Mechanical Testing and Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications. He will receive the award and participate in the ASTM Fellow Pinning Ceremony at the Committee E08 Meeting in May or November. Within the ACMD Fracture and Fatigue Group, Dr. Lucon leads the Charpy Verification Program.
