Robert M. Thompson is a senior forensic science research manager and has been with the Special Programs Office-Forensic Sciences at the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) for 12 years. Mr. Thompson has a master of forensic science degree from The George Washington University and a BS in forensic science from the California State University in Sacramento.
Prior to joining NIST, Mr. Thompson worked as a forensic examiner with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Washoe County Sheriff’s Department, the Oregon State Police, and the GeneLex Corporation. He is a court-accepted expert in several disciplines and has testified as an expert witness in numerous federal and state courts. He is a member of and presents in regional, national, and international forensic science societies. He has numerous publications in international forensic science journals.
