N-CRiPT, a China based team, is comprised of a group of individuals brought together by their interest in differential privacy. The team aimed to apply their research on differential privacy in a practical setting during the challenge. Team members include Bolin Ding of Alibaba Group, Xiaokui Xiao of the National University of Singapore, Kuntai Cai of the National University of Singapore, Ergute Bao of the National University of Singapore, and Jianxin Wei of the National University of Singapore.
N-CRiPT used the public dataset to select a set of marginals that contain highly correlated attributes. They sampled a collection of trips for each taxi to lower the sensitivity of marginals after which they injected noise to those marginal to achieve differential privacy. The team then used those marginals to construct a Markov random field (MRF). Finally, they used the MRF to generate synthetic data, as demonstrated in the flow chart below.
