NIST PSCR Awards $180,000 at Tech to Protect Challenge November Codeathons

30 Teams Named Winners at Regional Events Held Nov. 1-3, 2019

Last weekend, teams of innovators from the east coast to the west coast of the U.S. coded technology solutions for emergency responders. Many cutting-edge submissions were judged by panels of public safety and technology leaders, with 30 teams winning hard-earned prizes totaling $180,000 by PSCR.

The three-day hackathons took place in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, Pittsburgh and Miami. Each event fostered mass-collaboration with students, entrepreneurs, technologists and more, to create apps and software communication tools for emergency services personnel, firefighters and law enforcement—in their communities and nationwide.

Winning teams and new participants can still compete in the Tech to Protect Online Contest, open through November 15, 2019. Up to $1,850,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to those who submit by the deadline and finalists will be recognized at the National Award Event in Spring 2020.
