Murakami Leadership Development

About

Murakami established their North American operations in Campbellsville, Kentucky, in 2000. The facility is a Tier-1 manufacturer of exterior rearview mirrors for a variety of automotive customers.

The Challenge

After multiple expansions, the company's facility has over 300 team members working in injection molding, paint, assembly and other manufacturing related departments. Murakami's vision was to be the "Supplier of Choice" to their customers and an "Employer of Choice" in the community. After receiving the 2020 Assembly Plant of the Year award from Assembly magazine, the company experienced challenges with workforce recruiting, retention and development. High turnover and lack of workforce development was impacting operating KPIs and employee morale.
The KY-MEP Leadership and Culture Development program conducted by Amy supported our objectives for growth, culture, and safety. We experienced immediate improvements in production efficiency, morale, and team member engagement.
— Angie Miller, General Manager of Administration

MEP's Role

KY-MEP, part of the MEP National Network™, worked with the Murakami leadership team to develop a custom program focused on leadership, culture, and teamwork development. The leadership and culture development program included classroom training combined with individualized coaching and mentoring sessions to help Murakami realize their goals. The KY-MEP team worked collaboratively with Murakami leaders to prioritize areas of focus and to help quantify economic returns. The delivered program helped Murakami achieve sustainable improvements in operating performance.
