SIM Approval of the NIST Office of Reference Materials Quality Management System

Approval of Quality Management System

The NIST Office of Reference Materials implements a quality management system (QMS) based on Standard ISO 9001:2015, Guide 31:2015 and relevant requirements of Standard ISO/IEC 17034:2016. This quality management system was recently recognized by the Inter-American Metrology System (SIM) Quality System Task Force (QSTF) as being compliant with each of the three standards.  With this approval, SIM QSTF has issued the NIST Office of Reference Materials a certificate of approval.  The certificate notates the QMS conformance to both the ISO 9001:2015, Guide 31:2015, and ISO/IEC 17034:2016.

The NIST quality system implementation for reference material production is shared between the technical divisions and the Office of Reference Materials.  The Office of Reference Materials quality system, based on ISO 9001, embodies its significant role and responsibilities for the preparation, provision, inventory, and customer service that encompasses the delivery of NIST Standard Reference Materials (NIST SRM®), certified reference materials, and the entire suite of reference materials that NIST makes available to its customers.
