The group is recognized for developing testbeds and high-accuracy data that provide the photovoltaic industry with the ability to accurately model photovoltaic system output and to gain confidence in installed system performance. The group instrumented four NIST photovoltaic installations to monitor electrical output, solar panel characteristics, and meteorological conditions, at a level of accuracy and detail never before achieved in the field. The data are being used by industry to validate computer models of system performance, develop approaches to detect system anomalies, and predict how systems will integrate with the electric grid.
