Dr. Manzello is recognized for his groundbreaking engineering and scientific research on the vulnerabilities of built structures to ignition from wind-driven firebrand showers produced from wildland-urban interface fires. His pioneering research and numerous publications and presentations on the devastating effects of firebrand ignition has provided the technical basis for significant changes to building codes and standards, which in turn, have enhanced the fire resistance of buildings located in wildland-urban interface communities.
