Mr. Lombardi is recognized for his development of the innovative and highly successful SIM Time Network, currently involving 24 national timing laboratories in South, Central, and North America from the Sistema Interamericano de Metrologia (SIM), the regional metrology organization for the Americas. The SIM Time Network is the world’s only continuous, near real-time international time scale. The SIM Network has democratized international timing by enabling small national laboratories to maintain world-class time scales even with limited resources and equipment. Lombardi created the technology that allows high-precision time transfer for the network and spearheaded the drive to organize and recruit the participating countries.
