The team is recognized for developing an innovative approach that links ionization chamber (IC) current measurements in radioactivity to the Quantum SI. These measurements form the basis of the transfer of primary standards to secondary standards used to provide most NIST measurement services for radioactive sources. By establishing this link to the NIST current standard, the team changed the existing measurement paradigm and eliminated the need for IC measurements to be made relative to radioactive reference sources, resulting in a more robust measurement chain and a safer work environment.
