The group is recognized for the determination and dissemination of the filtration properties of natural and synthetic cloth materials used in the production of facemasks worn by the public to slow the spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The comprehensive effort was undertaken by team members to characterize facemask performance and usage, and to communicate the results within scientific and public forums. The findings have informed the nation, guided policy and facemask manufacturing, and promoted public welfare.
