Ms. Smothers is recognized for her exemplary contributions and stewardship in administering NIST’s Office of Workers’ Compensation Program. Her dedication and attention to customers, in addition to looking for ways to improve processes, has improved the efficiency of a cumbersome program. She has had a pivotal role and impact in ensuring that NIST is in the best position to obtain favorable outcomes. Furthermore, her tireless dedication in actively managing employee claims, working with organizations, and returning injured employees to work have positively affected NIST’s ability to advance its goals and mission. Due to her diligence, the number of claimants has decreased by 36% and cost to NIST decreased 46%.
