Mr. Gork is recognized for his outstanding contributions to protecting the safety and health of all NIST staff members and advancing a positive safety culture. He developed and executed a first-of-its-kind project at NIST to greatly reduce the possibility of inadvertently striking underground utilities using radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. This resulted in the advancement of safety best practices, creating significant improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of existing safety practices, and greatly reducing hazards associated with inaccurate and undetected underground utilities. His impactful actions makes way for a new standard that will have significant positive safety impacts.
