The group is cited for establishing a lending library service with the National Institutes of Health to facilitate the dissemination of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) standards (known as “phantoms”) to major U.S. research and clinical imaging sites. The lending library has allowed these institutions to improve the quantitative reproducibility of their MRI measurements. The library concept has pioneered a new, more accessible way to make NIST standards publicly available and has dramatically increased the reach and visibility of NIST’s own quantitative MRI imaging program.
