Drs. Leibfried, Slichter, and Wilson are honored for their dedicated, long-term leadership in quantum information processing through their research contributions to the field of trapped-ion quantum computing and their direct support of the industrial development of trapped-ion quantum processors. The team’s foundational work and their support of industry will enable future innovation in quantum computing based on trapped ions, potentially offering dramatic advantages over classical computers for applications critical to economic and national security.
