The team is recognized for developing a suite of advanced measurement tools based on artificial intelligence strategies that were instrumental in the development and characterization of the first induced pluripotent-stem-cell-containing medical product implanted into a patient in the USA. The team partnered with the NIH to support the manufacturing and testing of a tissue-engineered product for treating patients with age-related macular degeneration, a leading cause of adult blindness, and the tools are now being used in a clinical trial to help assure product safety and effectiveness.
