The Community Resilience Group conducts research and works with a wide range of stakeholders to provide tools to communities to help improve community resilience for all hazards, with a focus on the built environment(buildings and infrastructure systems) and the role they play in meeting the social needs of the community.
The group (1) conducts research in the areas of systems modeling of the built environment; community decision making for investments; emergency communication and risk perception; developing performance criteria from community social needs; and risk and reliability bases for community performance criteria and decision making; (2)provides guidance, tools, and science-based criteria for community resilience and the development of model codes and standards; (3) and conducts disaster and failure investigations through the Disaster and Failure Studies Program. The research is being coordinated with industry, voluntary standards organizations, trade associations, and federal and state government agencies.
