Office of Safety, Health, and Environment (OSHE)

OSHE’s mission is to help reduce safety, health, and environmental (SH&E) risks at NIST by planning, developing and maintaining, supporting the implementation of, overseeing compliance with, and continually improving NIST's SH&E programs. In doing so, OSHE will enable NIST to carry out its mission effectively and efficiently while protecting the worker, the public, and the environment and complying with applicable laws and regulations.

Protecting Our People and Our Community

The current goals of OSHE are to:

  • Ensure NIST regulatory compliance
  • Define and communicate clear SH&E roles, responsibilities and requirements across NIST
  • Provide straightforward interpretations of regulations, codes, and standards as they apply to the NIST environment
  • Provide services that support regulatory compliance and implementation of SH&E programs across NIST
  • Identify sound SH&E practices and promote their consistent use across NIST
  • Drive continual improvement of SH&E practices at NIST
  • Support the NIST Director in creating and sustaining a culture that values safety

Multiscale Modeling and Validation of Semiconductor Materials and Devices

Ongoing
The limitations of scaling traditional CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductors) designs have necessitated that the semiconductor industry consider new materials and design concepts. For wide bandgap semiconductor devices, optimization of materials and fabrication processes is needed to
