The ANDIMET workshop was held in Bogotá, Colombia, November 6-7, 2014, and aimed to bring together representatives from the government, academia and private sector dealing with renewable energy and climate science measurement standards from Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela. The presentations and panel discussions led to identify important training and capability opportunities for the region in relation to renewable energy and climate change:
- The measurement capabilities for air quality and GHG emissions are limited and are in need of improvement in Andean countries.
- Develop a hands-on training workshop for GHG measurements from fixed and mobile emission sources was identified. Thus far, all three regions; ANDIMET, CARIMET and SURAMET have identified training in these areas as a priority.
- Wind Energy and Photovoltaic energy systems are finding increasing use in the Andean countries in particular the region of Arequipa, Perú with an increase use of solar energy. Training to improve measurement capabilities in evaluating the performance of wind and photovoltaic devices was identified as another priority.
