2016 Bronze Medal Award

Ahmed

Ahmed

AWARD CITATION

Dr. Ahmed is recognized for spearheading an innovative NIST program on silicon and fiber photonic sensors for the measurement of the thermodynamic properties of temperature and pressure in diverse environments. He recognized the potential of using photonic sensors for metrology, and proactively assembled a team of collaborators to develop and advance NIST capabilities. He built a new laboratory to test, characterize, and calibrate these sensors; formed collaborations with fabrication experts to develop and assess prototype devices; and formed partnerships both inside and outside of NIST to demonstrate compelling applications for these devices. The success of this effort is already changing the entire field of thermodynamic measurement.
