Kuo-Tang Liao is a PML/UMD Research Scientist in the Microsystems and Nanotechnology Division since 2013. Kuo-Tang is currently working on developing a microfluidic device for liposomal drug quantification and analysis. He has developed a nanofluidic device to characterize particles and biomolecules in nanometer scale in CNST. He has extensive experiences developing devices based on nanofabrication facilities for various purpose to analyze all different nanomaterials in different methodologies, included electric, optical, and electrochemical analysis. Prior to join NIST, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Institute of Physics, Academia Sinica (AS), Taiwan, and then as a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Virginia (UVA), which also bridging a collaboration project between UVA and AS. At National Taiwan University, AS, and UVA, he developed carbon nanotube or silicon nanowire ion-selective field-effect transistors to detect neurotransmitters, and nanoconstriction devices to preconcentrate low abundance biosamples, as proteins, and applied for health care of pathogens. He received his Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry from National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan, as a major of electrochemistry.
