Collé, well-known for his work on establishing one of the first quality assurance programs for radioactivity in the world, was honored for "outstanding contributions to radiation and isotope applications and instrumentation. The medal is awarded for the most original, useful, or novel method developed for such applications." The award was presented at the 18th International Conference on Radionuclide Metrology and its Applications in Tsukuba, Japan, 19-23 September 2011.
