Abstract
The demand for lightweight, cost-effective, and/or flexible electronic and optoelectronic devices drives research toward new materials advancing the desired functionality or reducing manufacturing costs. Paper, being in addition an earth abundant and environmentally friendly material, has received much attention as a building component of electronic and optoelectronic devices, and many recently developed paper-based applications imply a visible success in the near future. This article introduces electronic and optoelectronic devices relying on or making use of unique properties achievable with paper-based materials, and reviews their relevant material, electronic and/or optical characteristics. Current research challenges, future design considerations, and development directions are discussed.Citation
