The Smart Connected Systems Division (SCSD) in NIST’s Communication Technology Laboratory (CTL) started internal operations in October 2021, and it became official on March 15, 2022, with the President’s signing of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022. The SCSD was formed from several groups that were transitioned from other NIST Laboratories (Engineering Laboratory and Information Technology Laboratory) and reorganized into the Communications Technology Laboratory.
The Smart Connected Systems Division brings significant multi-sector applications and operational systems engineering expertise and standards and measurement capabilities into CTL. Overall, the Division advances measurement science, standards, and test methods to support communications networks, trustworthy Internet of Things (IoT) systems, and critical applications including smart grid, smart manufacturing, industrial control systems, automated vehicles, and smart cities and communities.
The five SCSD Groups are: Networked Control Systems Group, Smart Connected Manufacturing Systems Group, IoT Devices and Infrastructure Group, Smart Grid Group, and Transformational Network and Services Group.
