Dr. Voorhees led the design and implementation of the NIST TREC COVID Challenge for evaluating information retrieval that provided unprecedented capability in accurately retrieving reliable, contemporaneous information for the global fight against COVID-19. The search technology resulting from the COVID Challenge was quickly deployed by researchers worldwide to improve search technology in the fight against the ongoing pandemic.
