The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) released the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF 1.0) on Thursday, January 26, 2023. A recording of the livestreamed event can be viewed in the video above.
Following remarks by Under Secretary of Commerce for Technology and NIST Director Laurie Locascio, Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves spoke, followed by Dr. Alondra Nelson, Deputy Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy Director for Science and Society in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy as well as House Science, Space, and Technology Chair Frank Lucas (recorded) and Ranking Member Zoe Lofgren. The launch event concluded with moderated discussions with leaders representing a range of interests across society. NIST Information Technology Laboratory Chief of Staff Elham Tabassi concluded the event with remarks.
The NIST AI RMF is a framework to better manage risks to individuals, organizations, and society associated with artificial intelligence (AI). The Framework is intended for voluntary use to improve the ability to incorporate trustworthiness considerations into the design, development, use, and evaluation of AI products, services, and systems. It has been developed through a consensus-driven, open, transparent, and collaborative process.
