Fire Prevention During Welding, Cutting, and Other Hot Works

Hot work is any activity that involves burning, welding, or using fire- or spark-producing tools. Often hot work activities produce heat, sparks, slag, and fumes that can cause fires and explosions if hazards are not properly mitigated or controlled. The requirements in this suborder establish roles and responsibilities, a permitting system, and safety procedures to avoid fires and explosions when conducting hot work activities on NIST sites.
