Alec Tripi (Assoc)

Alec Tripi is currently a graduate student at the George Washington University (GWU), pursuing a Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering. Alec first joined the NIST Fire Research Division (FRD) as a summer research student in 2024 and he continues to work as a member of the Flammability Reduction Group. Working with Dr. Isaac Leventon, Alec’s summer research project focused on developing and applying an experimental procedure to measure the average Molecular Weight of gaseous volatiles produced by the thermal decomposition of combustible solids. Alec's current research focus at NIST involves the construction of a Controlled Atmosphere Pyrolysis Apparatus (CAPA II), an advanced setup designed to study the pyrolysis behavior of materials under controlled atmospheric conditions.

Outside of NIST, Alec is an active member of GWU’s Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), e-NABLE, a 3D printed prosthetics donation organization, and a researcher in GWU’s Assistive Robotics and Tele-Medicine (ART-Med) Laboratory where he specializes in medical robotics and sensor fabrication.
