The group is recognized for developing design criteria that improved the safety and resilience of steel and reinforced concrete buildings to seismic events. Their innovative research integrated historical performance data, detailed nonlinear analyses, and full-scale testing. Their research also evaluated the seismic performance of typical steel and reinforced concrete building types to improve the safety, performance, and resilience of buildings. The group's leadership led to improvements to ASCE and ACI standards as well as leading to new AISC standards.
