AWARD CITATION
This group is recognized for developing the scientific basis for the first national standard for preventing catastrophic collapse in buildings. The group conceived, developed, constructed, and led large-scale structural experiments and computational models to evaluate the nonlinear behavior and failure modes of structural systems and to validate the methods and criteria. The group's research and findings formed the basis for a new American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) performance-based design standard.
