Yoon Thwel (Assoc)
Legal Metrology Research Intern
Ms. Thwel is a 2025 Spring Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) Legal Metrology Research Intern at the NIST Office of Weights and Measures (OWM) Metric Program.
Ms. Thwel is a student at Montgomery College, Rockville, Maryland pursuing an associate degree in Graphic Design and Communication Studies. She plans to transfer to the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland to further her education and pursue a bachelor's degree in a related field. Passionate about creating compelling content, she enjoys working collaboratively with others to bring creative ideas to life. With a strong interest in the visual and communicative aspects of design, Ms. Thwel aspires to become an art director in the future.
Ms. Thwel is focused on researching ways to improve OWM communications, enhance website content, and expand (SI) education publications. Her projects include:
- Updating the SI Teacher Kit materials.
- Expanding NIST Educational STEM Resource Registry (NEST-R) classroom resources.
- Creating posters:
- OWM Training Laboratory tours.
- 2025 National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) Conference.
- 2025 International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) 150th anniversary of the signing of the Meter Convention.
