Network-Diffused Media Scaling for Multimedia Content Services

Abstract

In this paper we propose a new approach to address multimedia consumption schedule for hybrid networks and terminals having variable amount of resources. The overall task is to match the data contained within the multimedia content to the abilities of the links and terminals it serves. In our first approach we only consider downscaling and show how various data representations can be used efficiently to reduce data delivery requirements. Furthermore, we implement this in a distributed fashion with low processing requirements from the processing nodes. We also consider cross-media translation for achieving large amount of scaling and matching data types with terminal capabilities of their constituents and surroundings. We further motivate this by content-based processing for media preparation and presentation. We demonstrate media scaling with examples of scalable multimedia services.
