Abstract
The utility of the lattice Boltzmann method for modeling fluid flow in complex geometries like porous materials is examined. After study of some simple test cases, results from large scale simulations of fluid flow through digitized Fontainbleau sandstone, generated by X-Ray microtomography, are presented. Reasonably good agreement is found when compared to experimentally determined values of permeability for similar rocks. We also calculate relative permeability curves as a function of fluid saturation and driving force. The potential for modeling flows in other microstructures of interest to concrete technology will be discussed.Proceedings Title
