Simulation of SCC Flow

Abstract

Predicting the rheological properties of concrete is essential for its optimal use in situations such as flow between rebars. The aggregate gradation and shape, as well as the rheological properties of the mortar or cement paste will affect the flow of SCC. To be able to determine the relevant parameters affecting the flow, one approach could be to conduct a series of tests on concrete and measure all properties. The other approach, adopted here, is to simulate the flow between rebars under gravity and observe the concrete rheological behavior. This approach has the advantage of allowing easier control of parameters which influence the flow properties of fresh concrete. This paper will present this new approach and show some examples of simulation.
