Abstract

USAXS imaging is a high-contrast imaging techniquebeing developed by NIST researchers. It providesdirect images of the shapes and three-dimensionalarrangement of the scattering objects within a samplethat is unobtainable using conventional x-ray imagingmethods. USAXS imaging, combined with USAXSanalysis, provides information on the size distributions,shapes, and three-dimensional arrangements of scatteringobjects. When applied to human and artificialtissues, these techniques improve the understanding ofthese materials and assist in the development of newman-made biomaterials. The goal of this research isnondestructive observation of the critical structuresresponsible for the properties of natural and man-madetissues.
