Abstract
Prof. Leonard Mandel led his students through a number of rather widely recognized experiments over the course of his career, but also through an extremely thorough investigation of lasers and other light sources. Leonard Mandel was nto a self promoter, but so many of his experiments became in some sense famous (at least within the quantum optics community) that some of us (who worked on the other experiments) might have felt left behind. We were, instead, inspired. We were inspired by the man, by his ideas, and by his care and regard for his students. In the following few pages I will attempt to give a brief sketch of some of the work that leonard Mandel became involved in during the period of time surrounding the time that I had the privilege of being one of his graduate students. Although some of the work was not well-known outside of a very narrow community, it all fit into the overall picture of what interested Leonard Mandel professionally and what he became known for over the course of this career.
