Abstract
Simulation technology is underutilized in the shipbuilding industry. The development of neutral data interfaces between simulation and other software applications, could make information sharing within a shipyard more effective and efficient, and hence promote the utilization of simulation in the shipbuilding industry. A generic shipbuilding simulation system with such a neutral data interface has been under development at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). An interface information model represents shipyard data and facilitates data sharing among the production system; the scheduling system and the simulation system have been developed. In this paper, the objectives and requirements of a generic shipbuilding simulation and the data interface are discussed. An overview of a generic simulation system of shipbuilding operations is presented.Proceedings Title
